And we’re off…

Hydration was the keyword for a very warm training session. We welcomed four new players for their free trial session, we hope they found it rewarding and are raring for more. We’d love to see them again. After a warmup and some passing drills to loosen up and remind ourselves of the basics, we went into a diamond shaped shooting drill which felt a bit like a barn dance at times. Once we got the idea there was great effort in defending and some excellent shots on goal. One of my main takeaways was that in the heat of the moment, counting to 4 and moving to the right cone isn’t always a skill you can take for granted! It was a great fast-paced drill, and definitely one I’d be keen to try again.

Thanks to the high turnout, the second half of the session was two side-by-side seven-a-side games. These smaller format games challenge defensive players to move further up the field on the attack, and give attacking players get a taste of their own medicine.

After a much needed shower, some of the Lions made our way for a post-training drink and debrief at the pub. Catching up with old and new friends over a cold one is definitely my favourite part of training!

Our next training session is the 4-6pm, Sunday 28th of August at Gresham Sports Park NG2 7YF. If you’re interested in attending, get in touch for the full details via nottinghamlionsfc@gmail.com or message us on FaceBook.
